Welcome to Mrs. Muldoon's Home Page

Welcome to the 2012-2013 academic year at Bromley East Charter School. After teaching many years, I await this year with enthusiasm and a sense of fun.

This year we will continue with Six Traits Writing and the Lucy Calkins writing model which is, not only highly respected and succesful, but will be used throughout the middle school english classes. This standardization of our writing program will greatly benefit our students. Students will be familiar with terminology and procedures and this will facilitate a smooth transition between grades and, most importantly, their learning.

Students will be writing a variety of pieces within different genres of writing: memoirs, narratives, persuasive pieces, informational writing, responses to literature, essays, fiction and poetry and appropriate genres will be developed as longer pieces of writing (short story, expository)

This year Bromley is focusing, not only reading comprehension, but the skill of responding to fiction and non-fiction pieces in a clear, organized and detailed way.  School-wide we are implementing the "How To Write Better Answers" protocol.  Students are reading and responding to a variety of reading selections.  Students are "interacting" with the text, which emphasizes  notating
*personal connections   *reactions    *questions   *new vocabulary
as they read.  This strategy is helpful to all students as it embeds the comprehension within the text.

I am eager and positive for our academic year and am available to your children and our community.
